What is a single-serve coffee maker anyway?

As you may know, I’m a big espresso fan, but I can understand that espresso might taste too intense for some people. If you are looking for a much lighter experience, you may consider getting yourself a coffee maker.

A single-serve coffee maker brews one cup of coffee at a time rather than a whole pot. The user fills the reservoir with water, inserts coffee grounds or a coffee pod, and presses the button. The single-serve coffee maker will shut off automatically when it’s done brewing.

Even though they might look like espresso machines, coffee makers do not have enough pressure to push water through finely-ground espresso beans.

Should you get yourself a single-serve coffee maker?

A single-serve coffee-maker can be fantastic for some, but not for everyone. With an average price of 50$, single-serve coffee makers are way cheaper than an automatic espresso machine. They generate one cup at a time, making it an excellent choice for people who drink their coffee alone or with a friend or two.

Single-serve coffee makers may not be as customizable as automatic espresso machines. However, they still can make an excellent purchase, so you and your guests can enjoy coffee of outstanding quality.

The best single-serve coffee makers

Which single-serve coffee maker is best for you? Read my reviews to know what the best single-serve coffee makers on the market are and pick the one which is best for your needs and budget.

Keurig K-Supreme Plus SMART Coffee Maker

The first coffee maker on this list is the Keurig K-Supreme Plus SMART Coffee maker, and this is one of the best single-serve coffee makers you can find out there.

You can connect this machine to an easy-to-use app and schedule brews hours in advance to have your coffee ready for you whenever you need it.

This feature is most helpful to get your coffee as soon as you get out of bed or when you get home after a hard day’s work.

The Multistream-Technology used for the Keurig-K model saturates the coffee grounds to a degree where the machine can extract full flavor and aroma from them. This technique enhances the coffee qualities to their fullest.

Tech-savvy coffee lovers can manually change the adjustments of this machine, but its preset settings are good enough for everyone. The machine’s BrewID can study the K-Cup pods you’re using and customize everything automatically without you needing to do anything.

Go for this coffee maker if you want coffee of the best quality you can get while using a single-serve coffee machine.

You can also get one for now and enjoy a pretty good coffee in the meantime, while saving for a bigger coffee-maker or espresso machine.

Pros

  • Wi-Fi features
  • Automatic customization
  • 5 cup sizes available
  • Compact design
  • It’s not that expensive

Cons

  • The Wi-Fi option can become a nuisance if you just want to use the machine manually.

Keurig K-Mini

Featuring a smaller and more portable design than the previous coffee maker, we have the Keurig K-Mini.

If you are looking for a professional coffee maker but don’t have enough funds, this is the one for you.

The Keurig K-Mini is one of the most affordable models under 100$ out there. It’s also easier to use than most coffee makers on the market, as it doesn’t come with too many features or options.

It’s a small product, weighing only 4.6 pounds, so you can easily move the Keurig K-Mini or take it with you. Like many single-serve coffee makers, the K-Mini will get your good-quality coffee ready at your home or office in a matter of minutes.

Energy-efficient products are perfect for people who want to cut the budget and spend less money at the end of the month. Saving energy is not as easy as it sounds, but energy bills are costly, so it’s best to do what you can to get energy-efficient products. The Keurig K-Mini shuts off after 90 seconds of inactivity, which also helps prevent accidents from happening.

Pros

  • Portable - take it anywhere with you
  • Compact - it will fit anywhere
  • It makes coffee fast
  • A great machine under 100$

Cons

  • Small capacity - you need to fill water each use.
  • Only brews Keurig K-Cup pods.

Tip from the Expert

You can warm up your cold coffee with hot water. While you may think that adding water to your coffee makes it lose its flavor, it does quite the opposite. Hot water allows the coffee to gradually heat up instead of shocking its flavor with extreme temperatures.

Hamilton Beach Scoop Single Serve Coffee Maker (49981A)

The Hamilton Beach Scoop Single Serve Coffee Maker is fast, easy to use, and doesn’t require pods, unlike most machines on the market.

Using ground coffee could be a great advantage for some users, but I do understand how others might see it as a disadvantage.

This Hamilton coffee maker filters coffee using a mesh basket. Use the scoop to get the coffee grounds you like and the amount of coffee you need, and the machine will make sure you get the perfect coffee for you.

This flexibility allows different brewing types of coffee at different strengths for people with different preferences.

Pros

  • Intuitive design
  • Fast - Brews an 8-ounce cup in less than 90 sec. And an entire travel mug in under 2.5 minutes.
  • It needs fewer water refills.

Cons

  • It’s not small enough for you to take it anywhere.
  • Not using pods can be a disadvantage for you if you’re addicted to your coffee pods.

Cuisinart Premium Single-Serve Coffee Maker

The Cuisinart Premium Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Charcoal Water Filter is a premium single-serve, drip coffee-maker that brews coffee to the perfect temperature every time.

The charcoal water filter removes impurities from the water for a rich, flavorful cup of coffee.

This machine features an adjustable brew strength option and a programmable timer, so the coffee-maker can be ready for you when you wake up or get back from work.

The Cuisinart Premium has a sleek, compact design that is great for small spaces, and it's K-Cup compatible, which allows you to brew your favorite coffee in no time.

This coffee maker also comes with personalized settings, which gives consumers the ability to control exactly how hot and how strong their cup of java should be.

The Cuisinart Premium Single-Serve Coffeemaker features a convenient hot water button on the front - so you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa even on those "fridge off" nights.

Pros

  • You can use it to make other hot drinks
  • Compatible with K-Cup pods
  •  A 72-ounce water reservoir
  • Fully programmable

Cons

  • More expensive than other products on this list
  • Not as small as other single-serve coffee makers

Elite Gourmet Maxi-Matic

Elite Gourmet Maxi-Matic offers a great coffee maker that is eco-friendly and doesn't cost too much. It has a quick brew time and is made of durable stainless steel.

This coffee maker is the perfect choice for a reasonably priced machine and high quality. The brand is not that familiar, but this single-serve coffee maker still does a great job delivering next-level coffee any time you need.

The sturdy body of this machine is made of stainless steel inside and out, so there's no need to worry about breaking it or leaving a stain on it (i don't recommend testing it, though).

It's common for single-serve coffee machines to brew coffee fast, and the Elite Gourmet Maxi-Matic is no exception. It is best for busy people who are always in a rush, and it will make your "on-the-go morning coffee" in less than one minute.

You don't need any paper filters to get this coffee-maker going, so it's super-easy to operate as well as eco-friendly. Just use your favorite coffee grounds, and you're all set.

This machine has everything you need to enjoy hot coffee in the best way possible. Shutting off after some inactivity effectively saves energy and keeps potential accidents from happening.

Pros

  • Eco friendly and easy to use
  • Brews coffee grounds in less than a minute
  • Made of resistant stainless steel

Cons

  • Doesn't support K-cups or coffee pods.

Mueller Ultimate Single Serve Coffee Maker

Last but not least, we have the Mueller Ultimate Single Serve Coffee Maker.

It is an excellent compact choice for those who need a quick cup of coffee first thing in the morning without wasting too much time making it.

The machine has a short brewing cycle, which means you’d be able to get your cup of joe within 3 minutes.

Its automatic shut-off timer switches off after 9 minutes of operation, preventing overheating and scorching.

Some people love single-serve coffee makers because of their small size. If you are one of those people, you will love using the Mueller Ultimate Coffee Maker, which will fit any home or office countertop.

The Mueller Ultimate has a 10oz water tank, ideal for standard-sized or even large coffee mugs but not for large travel coffee mugs.

Many coffee lovers would love to have complete control over their coffee preparation process. On the other hand, casual coffee drinkers prefer an easy-to-operate machine. Well, the good news is that with just a single button you press to start brewing, using the Mueller Ultimate one-cup coffee maker cannot get any easier.

Pros

  • Compatible with any 1.0 & 2.0 single coffee capsules
  • A great single-serve coffee maker for under 50$
  • high-quality coffee
  • Compact - will fit any home or office countertop

Cons

  • A small water tank - not the best choice if you’re having guests.
  • It might be too simple for true coffee lovers.

Conclusion

A coffee machine makes... umm... coffee, which is less intense than an espresso. A single-serve coffee maker can be an excellent solution for home and small-office use for those who drink coffee alone or in a small company.

Each one of the items on my list is of excellent quality, so you don’t have to hesitate to get any of them and start your coffee journey in the best way possible.

Whether you are a coffee expert or a casual coffee drinker, having a coffee machine can save you tons of time and money at coffee shops and help you enjoy coffee in a new way. As long as you choose the right product for your needs, you’re likely to have an out-of-this-world drinking experience!

If you decide to go for an espresso machine after reading this post, bear in mind, they might be more costly. Well, slightly more expensive if you go for a budget espresso machine, but w-a-y more expensive if you go for an automatic espresso machine, but hey - let’s consider it as a long-term investment?

Whether you want a coffee maker for a coffee shop, an office, or your household, it’s always good to share the good things you have with others. Please share this page with them to let them know what the best single-serve coffee makers are.
